CONTROL Resonant is a third-person action-adventure RPG starring Dylan Faden, built around shape-changing melee combat, supernatural abilities, large Manhattan zones, and build choices that continue into New Game Plus. The game launches on September 24, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Mac support planned later in 2026. This guide gives direct, sourced answers without inventing boss names, upgrades, or routes that Remedy has not revealed.
If you need one answer now, start with the release date, PC requirements, editions comparison, or estimated playtime. Players learning the systems should read the gameplay guide, Aberrant guide, and builds overview. Every pre-launch page states what is confirmed, what comes from an attributed preview, and what remains unknown.
What is CONTROL Resonant?
CONTROL Resonant is the direct sequel to Remedy Entertainment's 2019 game Control, but Remedy also describes it as a new entry point. Dylan Faden becomes the playable protagonist after years in FBC custody, while Jesse Faden has disappeared during a supernatural crisis spreading across Manhattan. The story connects to the first game without requiring players to complete it, and a recap will be available from the main menu.
The sequel changes more than its lead character. Dylan fights primarily at close range with the Aberrant, a transforming supernatural weapon, and explores distinct city zones instead of remaining inside one building. Remedy calls the structure an open-ended action-adventure RPG rather than a conventional seamless open world.
Release date, platforms, and editions
CONTROL Resonant releases worldwide on September 24, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. GeForce NOW support is planned at launch, while the Mac version is scheduled for later in 2026 through Steam and the Mac App Store. Remedy has not announced PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch versions.
The Standard Edition contains the main game, while the Digital Deluxe Edition adds a digital artbook, soundtrack, AWE Mission Outfit, Untapped Artifact, and starter resource bundle. On PS5, Remedy has also advertised 48-hour early access with the Digital Deluxe Edition; buyers on another storefront should verify that store's listing before assuming the same access window. See the editions guide for the clean item-by-item comparison.
How gameplay works
Combat revolves around a loop: melee attacks with the Aberrant restore the resource used by Combat Abilities, abilities can stun enemies, and executions create a temporary melee-damage boost. The Aberrant changes between forms such as Hammer, Blades, Scythe, and Fists, although demonstrations have used slightly different names and Remedy has not published a final complete form list. Dylan can also equip a primary form, a secondary form, and a separate combo ender.
Traversal is integrated with combat through powers including Reach, Shift, and abilities that interact with Gravity Anomalies. Large handcrafted zones contain main objectives, optional World Quests, hidden routes, and rewards that can change how Dylan fights. The gameplay guide explains this loop without treating trailer footage as a complete move list.
Builds, abilities, talents, and artifacts
Builds combine four connected layers: Aberrant forms, Combat Abilities earned from Resonants, Talent choices, and passive Artifacts. These layers should not be treated as interchangeable keyword pages because they answer one search intent: how to assemble and refine a combat setup. Remedy's examples show that a build can emphasize gap-closing, crowd control, executions, or ability generation rather than following one universal damage ranking.
Not every upgrade can be obtained in the first playthrough. Boss reward choices and limited Talent access make specialization meaningful, while New Game Plus opens additional nodes and alternate rewards. Until the final balance and complete item pool are public, the builds guide focuses on verified mechanics and decision rules rather than publishing a fictional “best build.”
Resonants and boss rewards
Resonants are the major supernatural bosses shown as a central source of Combat Abilities. Preview material suggests that defeating one can present multiple ability choices, so the reward may shape a playthrough instead of simply adding a fixed power. New Game Plus then lets players return for a different ability associated with the same boss.
Only a small amount of boss information is public, and even preview labels may be temporary. Our Resonants guide tracks named or demonstrated encounters, explains the confirmed reward system, and clearly marks provisional details. Individual boss walkthroughs will be published only after the encounter can be tested in the release build.
World structure and quests
Manhattan is divided into large, distinct zones rather than one uninterrupted open-world map. Remedy has shown the West Incursion Zone and described the Federal Bureau of Control as a hub connecting broader areas. Gravity Anomalies alter movement and access, giving Dylan reasons to revisit spaces when traversal abilities become available.
The main campaign is called Dylan's Journey, while World Quests are self-contained optional stories within the zones. They can add combat encounters, lore, rewards, and choices, and New Game Plus may expose alternate side-story or conversation outcomes. The world guide groups zones, World Quests, and Gravity Anomalies because they are parts of the same exploration intent.
Dylan, Jesse, and Zoe
Dylan Faden is the only confirmed playable protagonist. He is Jesse's brother, a former candidate in the Bureau's Prime Candidate Program, and the person held after the events that shaped both siblings' lives. Resonant begins after years of confinement, when Dylan enters a transformed Manhattan to investigate Jesse's disappearance and the crisis around the Oldest House.
Jesse remains essential to the plot even though she is not the playable lead. Zoe De Vera is Dylan's FBC handler and a recurring voice guiding him through the city, but official material leaves her motives and history deliberately open. The story and character guide separates established continuity from reasonable questions the marketing has not answered.
New Game Plus and replay value
New Game Plus is a designed progression layer, not just a harder replay. Dylan keeps Aberrant upgrades, health and resource improvements, Combat Abilities, Talents, and Artifacts, but traversal abilities do not carry over because they gate exploration. A fourth Artifact slot, additional Talent nodes, alternate boss ability rewards, and more dangerous encounter variants become available.
World Quests, bounties, collectibles, and some conversations can also be revisited. This makes the first run's build choices less permanent while preserving a reason to explore again. Read the New Game Plus guide before planning completion, but expect some exact unlock conditions to remain unknown until launch.
How long will CONTROL Resonant take?
Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov told TechRadar that the core experience is expected to take roughly 30 hours, while a completion-focused run may reach about 50 hours. These are developer estimates shared before release, not measured community averages. Difficulty, optional World Quests, exploration, build experimentation, and New Game Plus will create substantial variation.
The how long to beat guide explains what those two numbers appear to include and how to budget time without overstating precision. No credible speedrun, achievement-completion, or player-submission average can exist before the game is publicly playable. We will replace projections with observed data after launch.
CONTROL Resonant review status
A final CONTROL Resonant review is not possible before the September 24 release build can be completed and tested. Steam still shows the game as pre-release with no user-review average, while previews describe limited development builds under controlled conditions. This wiki will not convert preview enthusiasm or trailer analysis into a scored review.
The launch review will disclose platform, patch, completion state, settings, major technical issues, and time played. It will evaluate combat, exploration, buildcrafting, story, accessibility, and value while separating reproducible facts from opinion. Until then, the sourced system pages are more useful than a premature verdict.
What this guide will not guess
This wiki will not publish an “all bosses” list from silhouettes, convert trailer cuts into a full walkthrough, or label an untested setup as the best build. It will also avoid countdown times without a storefront-specific unlock schedule and avoid copying estimated PC specifications now that Steam lists official requirements. Unknown information is useful when it is labeled, because it tells players what still needs verification.
On release day, priority updates will cover tested settings, early progression, Aberrant unlocks, Resonant rewards, World Quest routes, and reproducible boss strategies. Each material change will receive a new verification date and, where appropriate, a source or in-game test condition. Corrections can be sent to support@controlresonant.online.
Sources and verification
This page was last verified on September 1, 2026 against Remedy's official reveal and release announcement, the official Steam listing, and Remedy-authored PlayStation Blog features on gameplay and New Game Plus. The playtime range is attributed to a TechRadar interview with lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov rather than presented as a measured result. CONTROL Resonant and related names belong to Remedy Entertainment and their respective rights holders; this is an independent fan guide.
