How Long Does CONTROL Resonant Take to Beat?
Learn how long CONTROL Resonant takes to beat, with the 30-hour story estimate, 50-hour completion estimate, side content, and New Game Plus context.
On this page+
CONTROL Resonant is expected to take about 30 hours for the core experience and around 50 hours for a completion-focused playthrough. Lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov provided those pre-release targets in an interview, so they are developer estimates rather than averages measured from finished players. New Game Plus, alternate boss rewards, World Quests, bounties, and build experiments can extend the total well beyond one completion.
The practical answer is to reserve roughly four to six longer sessions for the main story and considerably more time if you explore every zone. Players following only Dylan's Journey may finish near the lower figure, while players who investigate optional paths and return in New Game Plus will land higher. No trustworthy speedrun or community completion average is available before the September 24, 2026 launch.
CONTROL Resonant playtime estimates
| Play style | Working estimate | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Focused main campaign | About 30 hours | Dylan's Journey with limited optional exploration |
| Main story plus World Quests | 35–45 hours | Major side stories, zone exploration, and build testing |
| Completion-focused first run | About 50 hours | Broad exploration, optional activities, and collectible cleanup |
| New Game Plus | 20–40+ extra hours | Alternate rewards, expanded Talents, harder encounters, and revisited quests |
Only the 30-hour and 50-hour figures come from an attributed developer interview. The middle and New Game Plus ranges are planning estimates based on the revealed structure, not official promises. We will replace them with measured save-file and player data after launch.
What does the 30-hour estimate mean?
Mohov described approximately 30 hours as the “core experience,” which is best understood as the main campaign rather than a hurried critical-path speedrun. CONTROL Resonant calls that campaign Dylan's Journey, following Dylan through Manhattan while he searches for the missing Jesse Faden. The term may still include some natural exploration or optional combat because the game's zones are built to encourage detours.
It does not mean every first-time player will see credits at the same point. Difficulty, unfamiliar combat systems, exploration, and dialogue pacing can move an individual run several hours in either direction. A player who repeatedly rebuilds Dylan's loadout or searches every Gravity Anomaly should plan above 30 hours.
What adds time beyond the main story?
World Quests are self-contained side stories distributed through large, distinct zones. They can contain their own encounters, characters, choices, and rewards, so completing them is more substantial than clearing generic map markers. Bounties and collectibles provide additional reasons to stay in or revisit an area.
Exploration also depends on traversal powers. Remedy says movement abilities do not carry into New Game Plus because they gate the route through the world, which suggests that access changes as Dylan progresses. Discovering how Reach, Shift, and Gravity Anomalies connect optional spaces will add time even when the player is not pursuing every collectible.
How builds affect playtime
CONTROL Resonant builds combine Aberrant forms, Combat Abilities, Talents, and Artifacts. Players can equip primary and secondary weapon forms, assign a distinct combo ender, and choose ability rewards associated with Resonant bosses. Testing those combinations is optional, but it can turn a straightforward story run into a much longer systems-focused playthrough.
Not every Talent or boss ability can be unlocked on the first run. That limit encourages meaningful choices, but it also prevents a single completion from showing the entire combat sandbox. Players who want to compare crowd-control, execution, gap-closing, and resource-generation setups should include New Game Plus in their time budget.
How much content is in New Game Plus?
New Game Plus carries over Aberrant upgrades, health and resource improvements, Combat Abilities, Talents, and Artifacts. It adds access to further Talent nodes, a fourth Artifact slot, alternate ability rewards from previously defeated bosses, and more dangerous encounters whose composition may evolve. Traversal abilities reset so the world's progression still unfolds in its intended order.
Remedy has also said players can revisit World Quests, bounties, collectibles, and side-story choices. Some conversations or outcomes may differ, giving the second run narrative value beyond increased difficulty. The exact completion time remains unknown because the final number of bosses, quests, and collectibles has not been published.
Does difficulty change the estimate?
Difficulty options and accessibility details have not been fully documented, so there is not yet a reliable multiplier for each setting. The combat loop requires melee attacks to restore Combat Ability resources, while abilities create stuns and executions that feed back into stronger melee pressure. Players who master that rhythm should clear encounters faster than those who treat every tool as an isolated attack.
Bosses can also behave differently in New Game Plus, and ordinary encounters may combine enemies in more dangerous ways. A difficult fight does more than add retry time because it can encourage loadout changes and Artifact crafting in the Gap. Until the launch build is tested, any exact “hours by difficulty” table would be guesswork.
Do you need to play Control first?
You do not need to finish the original Control before starting CONTROL Resonant. Remedy presents the sequel as both a continuation and a new entry point, and Mohov said a recap of the first game will be available in the main menu. New players may miss some context around Dylan, Jesse, the Hiss, and the FBC, but the main campaign is designed to explain its own immediate stakes.
Playing Control first will add a separate campaign to your total, not reduce Resonant's stated length. If time is limited, use the recap and read the story guide for spoiler-controlled context. Players interested in character history and the Oldest House will naturally get more from experiencing the earlier game directly.
How to plan your first playthrough
Budget 35 hours if you want the story plus a reasonable amount of optional exploration without trying to clear the map. That gives breathing room above the 30-hour core estimate for learning the Aberrant, reading menus, and completing a few promising World Quests. Reserve closer to 50 hours if completion is important to you.
Avoid planning a perfect build before release. Boss rewards and Talents are choice-driven, and official material explicitly says one run cannot unlock everything. The gameplay guide, builds guide, and New Game Plus guide explain the systems that most affect pace.
What remains unknown before launch?
Remedy has not published a chapter count, complete World Quest list, full collectible total, achievement-time estimate, or average New Game Plus duration. There is also no representative pool of public save data because the game has not launched. Those missing numbers matter more than a speculative hour-by-hour route.
After September 24, this page will compare first-run save times by play style and explain whether cutscenes, retries, paused time, or New Game Plus are counted. Any community average will need a meaningful sample instead of one reviewer's completion. Until then, 30 hours for the core experience and 50 hours for completion are the most defensible answers.
Sources and verification
This guide was checked on September 1, 2026. The 30-hour and 50-hour estimates come from TechRadar's interview with lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov, while the content structure and replay features come from Remedy's official articles on buildcrafting and New Game Plus. Figures not explicitly attributed to those sources are labeled as planning estimates, and this page will be revised after release-build testing.
